Disabled Access at Glebe Veterinary Surgery

At Glebe Veterinary Surgery, we are committed to providing accessible care for all our clients and their pets. We have taken steps to ensure that our facilities are inclusive and comfortable for everyone.

Access to the Building

There is a lowered section in the pavement outside the practice to allow easier wheelchair and mobility access to the entrance. If you require assistance on arrival, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Parking

We are happy to reserve a parking space close to the entrance for clients with limited mobility. To arrange this, please phone ahead and a member of our team will ensure a suitable space is available for you when you arrive.

Ground-Level Facilities

All client areas within the practice are located on the ground floor, with step-free access throughout.

Accessible Toilet

A disabled access toilet is available for client use and is located next to our dispensary.

Access to and Ownership of Records

At Glebe Veterinary Surgery, we maintain detailed clinical records for every patient under our care. These records are essential for delivering safe, consistent, and high-quality veterinary treatment.

Ownership of Records

All clinical records, including notes, test results, radiographs (X-rays), photographs, and other diagnostic materials, remain the property of Glebe Veterinary Surgery. This is in accordance with guidance from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

Client Access

As a client, you are entitled to access the information held in your pet’s clinical records.

  • Summary of Records: Upon request, we can provide a summary of your pet’s clinical history, including vaccinations, treatments, and relevant test results.
  • Transferring Records: If you are moving to another veterinary practice, we will forward a copy of your pet’s clinical history directly to your new vet upon request.
  • Third Party Requests: We will only share clinical records with third parties (e.g., insurers, referral centres) with your explicit consent, unless required by law.

Imaging and Test Results

Copies of radiographs and other diagnostic images or results can be provided upon request and may be subject to a fee to cover administrative costs. Original documents remain the property of Glebe Veterinary Surgery but can be shared with referral practices or specialists where appropriate.

Data Protection

We take data privacy seriously. All records are stored securely and handled in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Second Opinions and Referrals

At Glebe Veterinary Surgery, we are committed to ensuring your pet receives the best possible care. We fully support your right to seek a second opinion or referral if you wish to do so.

Second Opinions

If you would like a second opinion on your pet’s condition, either from another vet within our practice or from another practice entirely:

  • Please let us know and we will be happy to assist.
  • If the second opinion is to be obtained outside of our practice, we will provide a copy of your pet’s clinical history and any relevant test results to the veterinary surgeon of your choice.
  • We aim to support this process efficiently and without delay, as your pet’s welfare is our top priority.

Referrals

For cases requiring advanced diagnostics, specialist treatment, or surgical procedures beyond the scope of general practice:

  • Your vet may recommend a referral to a recognised specialist or referral centre.
  • We will discuss this with you fully, including what to expect from the referral and any associated costs.
  • With your consent, we will arrange the referral and send all necessary clinical records directly to the specialist.

Working with Referral Practices

We maintain good working relationships with several local and national referral centres to ensure continuity of care. After the referral consultation or treatment, we will receive a full report and continue to work closely with the referral team for any ongoing care.

Overnight Care of In-Patients at Glebe Veterinary Surgery

At Glebe Veterinary Surgery, the safety and comfort of your pet is our top priority — day and night. While most overnight care is provided by our trusted out-of-hours partner, Beacon Vet Care, there are some occasions when a patient may need to remain at our practice overnight.

When Pets Stay Overnight with Us

In certain cases, we may keep a pet overnight at our practice if we believe they are stable enough to remain under our care, rather than transferring them to our out-of-hours provider. This decision is made carefully with your pet’s wellbeing in mind.

Monitoring and Welfare

  • Your pet will be regularly checked by the admitting veterinary surgeon, who remains responsible for their care during the night.
  • While staff are not on the premises continuously overnight, the vet will return to the practice as needed to check on your pet, administer medication, provide food, and take them out for toileting.
  • Your pet will also be monitored via a webcam, linked securely to the attending vet’s phone, to ensure regular remote observation between physical checks.

What You Can Expect as an Owner

  • When your pet is admitted for overnight care, we will clearly explain the level of supervision they will receive.
  • You will receive an update on your pet’s condition before the end of the working day.
  • We will only contact you after this time if there is a significant change in your pet’s condition that requires your attention or decision-making.

Continuity of Care

If your pet remains with us the following day, their care will be handed over to the next veterinary surgeon on duty to ensure a smooth and consistent treatment plan.
